Washington, D.C., 25 January 2010- A team that includes the Geophysical Laboratory's Ho-kwang (Dave) Mao has increased our understanding of how metal hydrides can be turned into novel and potentially very high temperature superconductors.

Washington, D.C., 18 December 2009- Single-crystal diamonds produced at the Geophysical Laboratory are traveling with a major museum exhibit called the Nature of Diamonds. The display focuses on the beauty of diamonds, their geological origins, and the science of diamond.

Washington D.C., 22 November 2009- A team from the Geophysical Laboratory has produced unusual compounds under pressure consisting of xenon and hydrogen.

Washington, D.C., 3 November 2009- Interplanetary dust particles (IDPs) collected by NASA aircraft in 2003, from the comet tail of Grigg-Skjellerup, have proven to contain ultra-primitive material from before our sun was born.

Yingwei Fei Elected Fellow of AGU

Yingwei Fei, Senior Staff Member at the Geophysical Laboratory, was elected a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union on 22 January. The honor is given to those who have attained “acknowledged eminence in the Earth and space sciences.” Only one in each thousand members is elected to Fellowship each year.

GL Alumnus James Scott Dies

James H. Scott, a former Associate Staff Member at the Geophysical Laboratory, died of an apparent heart attack at his home in Hanover, New Hampshire on 11 January. He was 48 years old.

Eigenbrode’s Experiment Added to 2011 Mars Rover

A former Geophysical Laboratory Fellow and current scientist at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Jennifer Eigenbrode, has made a compelling breakthrough on how to identify large carbon molecules in the soil and trace evidence for life in extreme environments.
